The Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach with special responsibility as Government Chief Whip, Jack Chambers, TD launched the NSB's five year strategy at a webinar on 27th May 2021. The event included a presentation on the key points of the strategy presented by the NSB's Chairperson, Ms. Anne Vaughan and three key speakers in the world of official statistics and data.
Mr. Anil Arora is the Chief Statistician of Canada appointed in September, 2016. Mr. Arora is an experienced senior public official, having worked at Statistics Canada for over 25 years leading significant programs and transformations. He has also served in policy and regulatory roles in the Government of Canada at Natural Resources Canada and Health Canada. Mr. Arora has led substantive international initiatives, working with the United Nations and the OECD, and received numerous prestigious awards for leadership. He serves on a number of Boards and is active in community events and social causes. Mr. Arora received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta, with subsequent studies in computer science. He holds a graduate certificate in public sector management and governance from the University of Ottawa and the Government of Canada’s Advanced Leadership Development Program.
Dr. Orlaigh Quinn is the Secretary General at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, appointed in October, 2016. Her role is to support Government and lead the Department and its offices and agencies in encouraging the creation of high quality and sustainable full employment; by championing innovation and enterprise, supporting and incentivising a competitive enterprise base, and promoting fair and competitive employment and markets. Prior to her current role, she was as Assistant Secretary, Head of Reform in the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform where she led on public sector reform, civil service renewal and government reform. She has also worked in several other public sector organisations, including the Department of Social Protection as HR Director, Head of National Pensions and EU/International Affairs; the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht and the Central Statistics Office. At international level, she has worked for the European Commission, as an expert on employment and social policy. She is a former Visiting Research Fellow of Trinity College Dublin and holds a Masters in Public Management and a Doctorate in Governance from Queen’s University Belfast. She is the author of two books on public policy topics.
Dr. Mariana Kotzeva is the Director General of Eurostat, appointed by the European Commission in March, 2018. She is not only the first Bulgarian Director General in the European Commission but also the first woman at the helm of Eurostat. Ms Kotzeva held the post of Acting Director General of Eurostat from 1 January 2017. She joined Eurostat as a special adviser in 2012, becoming its Deputy Director General in 2014. Prior to joining the European Commission, she was the Head of Bulgaria’s National Statistical Institute. She also held a number of high-level consulting posts in the Bulgarian and foreign administrations, and led international projects for the United Nations and the World Bank. Ms Kotzeva has a Master's degree in economics and a PhD in statistics and econometrics. She is an Associate Professor of Statistics at the University of National and World Economy in Sofia.
