Dr Joanne Uí Chrualaoich (CEO Safefood)

Joanne is the CEO and accounting officer for Safefood the North-South Implementation Body established under the Good Friday Agreement to promote food safety and healthy eating across the Island of Ireland. She is a senior public service leader with more than 20 years’ experience spanning public policy, health, research, education, organisational reform and strategic leadership. Prior to joining Safefood Joanne had responsibility at principal officer level for population health screening, cardiovascular and neurology policy in the Department of Health. Earlier in her career Joanne held roles in University College Cork, where she continues to contribute to part-time lecturing on management practice and leadership programmes. Her teaching and research include performance, organisational and adult development and antecedents of trust. Joanne is committed to life-long development holding a BA, BSc, MA and PhD as well as being a chartered fellow of the Institute of Personnel Development and member of the Institute of Directors. Her wider governance experience includes serving as a Director of Dyslexia Ireland since 2022; a Board Member of CARDEA since 2023; election to the Board of AEDIL 2022; and membership of the National Women’s Health Executive from 2023–2026.
